Are you ready for the BoK for EO&GI?

The current version of the BoK has limited access, mainly used for testing of the different tools developed within EO4GEO. But we are happy to inform you that the first public version of the BoK for Earth Observation (EO) and Geographic Information (GI) will be released on the 21st of October! Although this is still a work in progress, this will give you a good idea about the rich content the BoK will provide to the EO and GI world. Information about the release will soon be available on the EO4GEO website and social media channels. So stay tuned and follow EO4GEO activities!

During the last year, 7 working groups identified almost 1000 concepts and developed an initial structure for the BoK. Enrichment of the BoK with a business-oriented perspective is implemented and is described by Hofer et al. (Hofer et al., 2020). The market and user-oriented concepts were identified in collaboration with industry through the involvement of the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC).
More than 160 concepts of the BoK have already been completed by contributing experts from academia, industry and the user community. Experts who joined the EO4GEO Network of Experts provide or review the concept descriptions, including the skills, key resource references and relations that build the structure of the BoK ontology. Information on the latest BoK developments can be found in our paper jointly prepared with the EO4GEO partners and active experts (Stelmaszczuk-Górska et al, 2020).
With 20% of the BoK concepts fully elaborated there is still a lot of work in front of us. Therefore, we again ask you to contribute to the BoK development and join the EO4GEO Network of Experts. After all, the rich Body of Knowledge is the base for the value and success of the tools developed within the project (all the details in the dedicated article), and thus a skills strategy for the EO and GI sector.
